Open Position: Animal Care Technician

Location: Marion County Humane Society, Knoxville, IA

Reports to: MCHS Manager

Pay: Starts at $10.00/hour

 

Responsible for cleaning cages and kennels, feeding and caring for dogs and cats, bathing and exercising dogs. Other duties may include washing dishes, doing laundry, unloading dog food, and other tasks as assigned. Length of shifts vary depending on our animal population. Review and raise potential after 90 days.

 

Desired Skills:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time (8 hours a day) and to bend and reach to perform assigned work activities. Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs without assistance in an animal shelter environment.

  • Ability to interact with impounded dogs, cats, and other animals including vicious, stray, sick or injured animals. Ability to determine which animals are aggressive.

  • Ability to handle seeing and dealing with animals that have been abused, neglected, or treated cruelly.

  • Ability to learn/perform a variety of animal care related work activities.

  • Must be comfortable cleaning and working with both dogs and cats.

 

Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years old to apply.

  • Must pass background check.

  • Must have reliable transportation.

  • Must be able to work every other weekend or this could be a weekend only position.
